With more than 2.2 million Australians diagnosed with a mental health condition, mental health OT services are in high demand.

Rising to meet that demand in Western Australia, LifeLift has expanded its mental health OT services to NDIS participants in Bunbury and surrounding areas, as well as across the Perth metropolitan area.

Our experienced, empathetic occupational therapists (OTs) are AHPRA and NDIS registered and focus on enhancing the quality of life, health and wellbeing of those they work with.

When mental health issues create a significant impact on a person’s life, it can lead to a disability. This is often referred to as a psychosocial disability and may allow a person to receive funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme to access the vital support they need.

What is psychosocial disability?

When a mental health issue is severe enough that it impacts a person’s social wellbeing and their ability to live life fully, it may be classified as a psychosocial disability.

Specifically, a psychosocial disability can make it difficult to participate in educational, job and training opportunities, may affect a person’s engagement in social and cultural experiences in their community, and negatively impact their ability to make plans, set goals and maintain positive relationships.

Some health conditions are more likely to lead to psychosocial disability.

These include:

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • ADHD/ADD
  • Anxiety
  • Autism
  • Developmental trauma
  • Social phobia
  • Intellectual disability
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Agoraphobia
  • Schizophrenia & schizoaffective disorder
  • Dementia

What are mental health OT services?
