What is a NDIS community nurse?
Put simply, a NDIS community nurse offers hospital-style nursing services for eligible NDIS participants in the home. The services are customised to suit the specific needs of each participant and their disability, but may include:

• Post-hospital care
• Diabetes management
• Respiratory support
• Medication support & management

Accessing a community nurse through the NDIS
Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme exists to provide assistance to those living with disability.
To access funding for a community nurse through the NDIS, your NDIS plan must include funding for Capacity Building support. These community nursing services must be related to your disability, be delivered by a NDIS registered professional, support your independence, and must not be required permanently.
LifeLift’s caring, AHPRA registered community nursing professionals will also liaise with family and medical professionals to care for NDIS participants, allowing them to focus their time and energy on becoming more independent again. Our nursing staff will monitor a client’s health progress closely and can recommend further health care supports if required.

Community nurses can support NDIS participants with epilepsy and other conditions where seizures occur. They can help keep airways open during seizures, monitor seizure frequency, adjust medication, and look for ways to minimise seizure frequency.
