The Power of Positive Behaviour Support
All that we do at LifeLift aims to transform a person’s quality of life in ways that are positive and meaningful to them, and bring more ease and joy to daily living.
Our team prioritises person-centred care and all of our behaviour support services are delivered with a focus on Positive Behaviour Support.
LifeLift is a registered NDIS provider and our compassionate AHPRA registered therapists are equipped to handle even the most challenging situations.
Our Positive Behaviour Support Services improve a person’s quality of life by helping them further develop their skillset and/or providing new behavioural tools or support strategies that allow them to thrive, be more connected and live with dignity and freedom.
The creation of a Behaviour Support Plan is done in conjunction with our clients – and their parents, carers or employers, where appropriate – to ensure customised care so personal goals and needs can be achieved.
Positive Behaviour Support with LifeLift
Positive Behaviour Support makes a meaningful difference.
From supporting children with autism to those living with dementia, disability, brain injury, ADHD or learning / educational disabilities or challenges, our Positive Behaviour Support Services focus initially on gaining a clear picture of the challenges being faced.
LifeLift’s trained team of allied health experts will work with NDIS participants to assess any behaviours that are causing challenges, what factors or limitations may be contributing to behaviours of concern and what can be done to overcome these. This may include helping clients expand their positive skills and behaviour toolkit or finding novel ways to help them meet their needs.
LifeLift’s therapists can work with NDIS participants of all ages to build a Positive Behaviour Support Plan and our support is culturally sensitive and family-centred.
Psychology Services
LifeLift also offers Psychological Services to support the mental health of our clients. These can be delivered at home, work or at another suitable location.
Services include; psychotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy adaptive and cognitive functioning assessments, mental health diagnoses, and executive functioning therapy.
Why Support Behaviours of Concern?
Addressing behaviours of concern (behaviours that can be perceived as difficult, unusual, challenging or dangerous) is critical to a person’s wellbeing.
Behaviours of concern can cause people to be excluded from activities, leading to negative social impacts and feelings of disconnection, which can further exacerbate matters.
We see ‘behaviours of concern’ through a lens of compassion and look at the underlying needs a person in our care is trying to communicate through their behaviour, in order to respectfully support them. We understand behaviour can be caused by social, physical, emotional and environmental factors and consider all of this.
Restrictive Practices
When restraints are necessary, as a last resort for safety, our therapists – who have undergone training in the responsible use of restrictive practices – follow the Regulated Restrictive Practices Guide.
We are aware these practices must be clearly identified in a Behaviour Support Plan and carefully consider the impact of these measures.
LifeLift understands the need to reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices
LifeLift Functional Behaviour Assessments
LifeLift’s friendly and experienced occupational therapists undertake Functional Behaviour Assessments that can provide an understanding of and prepare for the occurrence of behaviours of concern.
Functional Behaviour Assessments:
- Identify where clients need more support to make daily living tasks easier, which can be a trigger for behaviours of concern
- Monitor how a person is engaging with various environments (ie. at home, at work, out in the community)
- Seek to observe what may be contributing to any behaviours of concern, so they can be addressed.
Functional Behaviour Assessments aim to highlight the positive interventions needed to make it easier for NDIS participants to live independently and with more dignity.
